Dubai’s love for premium chocolates has created a new wave of cyber fraud targeting unsuspecting consumers. If you’ve been tempted to buy viral chocolate brands like FIX Chocolate through online ads, you may want to think twice before making a purchase.

A recent case has exposed a dangerous scam where fraudsters disguise themselves as official sellers, luring victims with irresistible discounts—only to wipe out their bank accounts.

How the Scam Works

One victim, a client of legal consultant Arash Zad, learned the hard way. It all started with an Instagram ad claiming to be from FIX Chocolate, offering an attractive 40% discount. The ad looked legitimate, and clicking on the link directed the victim to what appeared to be Deliveroo’s official website, the authorized distributor for FIX Chocolate in Dubai.

Feeling assured, the victim placed an order for 40 dirhams—a seemingly small price for premium chocolate. But behind the scenes, something far more sinister was happening. The payment gateway was fake. Within moments, a Saudi-based entity withdrew 3,000 dirhams from the victim’s account, followed by an attempted charge of 3,500 dirhams.

The Red Flags to Watch Out For

This scam follows a pattern that has been increasingly used by cybercriminals:

  1. Fake Social Media Ads – Fraudsters create sponsored ads that mimic legitimate brands.
  2. Lookalike Websites – Scam sites are designed to look like real e-commerce platforms (e.g., Deliveroo, Noon, Talabat).
  3. Small Initial Payment – Victims feel safe spending a small amount, but their card details are stolen in the process.
  4. Large Unauthorized Charges – Soon after, scammers charge massive amounts to the victim’s card, often in another country.

How to Protect Yourself

With online scams on the rise, here are some key steps to safeguard your hard-earned money:

✔️ Verify the Source – Always check if an ad is from an official brand account. Visit the company’s verified website instead of clicking on ads.

✔️ Look for Secure Payment Gateways – Before entering card details, make sure the site has HTTPS and is from a known, trusted retailer.

✔️ Use Virtual or Limited Credit Cards – Many banks offer one-time-use virtual cards that limit exposure to fraud.

✔️ Check Reviews & Contact Support – If a deal looks too good to be true, search for reviews and try reaching out to the official brand for verification.

✔️ Enable Banking Alerts – Turn on SMS/email notifications to monitor suspicious transactions instantly.

Where to Buy Authentic FIX Chocolate

To ensure you are getting the real FIX Chocolate, always purchase from the following trusted sources:

✅ Deliveroo – The official distributor in Dubai. Check their app or website for availability.
✅ Official FIX Chocolate Website – Always verify the website address to avoid phishing scams.
✅ Reputable Retailers – Large supermarkets or specialty chocolate stores in Dubai may carry authentic FIX Chocolate.
✅ Verified Social Media Links – Always check FIX Chocolate’s official Instagram and website for promotions and links to authorized sellers

Final Thoughts

The FIX Chocolate scam is just one of many fraudulent schemes in the UAE’s online market. Scammers are taking advantage of social media trends, and it’s crucial to stay vigilant. If you or someone you know has fallen victim to such scams, immediately report it to your bank and local authorities to prevent further fraud.

Let’s spread awareness and ensure that sweet deals don’t turn into bitter losses!
